My Dog, The Fish

Margo loves loves LOVES the water.  It's odd.  She is a chunky, stalky, bulldog.  You would think she would just sink.  Nope, she swims until someone makes her stop.

Summer time is the highlight of her life at doggy daycare.  You see, Puppy's Playpen has a pool.  And I'm not talking about just any pool.  It's a legit big dog pool.  We only have a baby pool at our house, and I'm pretty sure she is unimpressed with our efforts to compare.

The people that work there tell me every week how they just can't believe how much she loves to swim.  She gets in the second they let her outside and stays in it until it's time to go inside.  Keep in mind, this is as I'm picking her up and she is still SOPPING wet.  I've learned to carry towels in my car for this reason.  I've also learned to let her pee before the drive home.  Apparently there is no time to pee when you have a pool waiting for you.

Here's some action shots from the webcam.  Yes, I'm that dog mom.  I check in on my dog at school.  Shhh....

It's going to be a sad sad day come September when they take it down.  Until then my fur baby, soak it all in!

Margo Post

It's been awhile since my precious pup has had a blog post all to herself*.  And we all know how much girlfriend loves attention.  Just ask anyone who walks through our door.  Anyone except the security system people, then she turns all scared and timid.  Great timing, be a little wimp to the only people who know our freaking alarm code.

Doesn't this look like a face who is super excited to share her attention in a few months?

I don't think anyone asked her how she felt about the situation.  Rude.

We did find out that she is choke hold tolerable though.

I'm sure that will come in handy.

*So it really didn't end up being all to herself.  She's gotta start sharing at some point!

Mother's Day Mules

Happy LATE Mother's Day to all of the mom's out there!

Especially my mama, she is the best.

Ever since visiting Christy in Omaha a few months ago, I have been obsessed with Moscow Mules... as some of you may have noticed on my FB wall.  It's fresh lime juice, vodka, and ginger beer all served in an amazing copper mug that is magical.

Wanna see what Margo got me for Mother's Day???

Magical Copper Mugs

Hubby mixing up deliciousness

Here's what the ginger beer looks like.  Emily filled me in on where to buy it (MDL) and told me that it's non-alcoholic.  Like Root Beer.  I seriously would have never known.  I have smart friends.

Thanks Marg - best present ever!!  Thanks Tony :)

I am wearing a dress I promise

Consensus on our homemade mules?  They were good, but we definitely needed fresh lime juice.  I just didn't want to make a grocery store run last night.  I'm lazy like that.

Who wants to come try out the mugs next???

Bad Dog

Margo got in trouble at school today.

As the employee was telling me about how she sits by the door and waits for new dogs to come in before she pummels their ass, he used the words 'jazzy' and 'sassy'.

I think it was his nice way of saying 'bitchy bully'.

Oh Marg, what are we going to do with you?

Show Some Love

Today is national Hug Your Dog Day...

As if Margo doesn't get enough love from us already, she'll be getting a little more today.

Go hug your dog/dogs/neighbors dog.

Attention!!!

We had a crazy thing happen in our household yesterday...

Tony left his flipflops out in our bedroom.

I came home to one sitting on the living room rug.

IT HAD NOT BEEN EATEN.

Someone please return my dog.

Chalk up another vet bill

I swear anything and everything that can happen to a dog, has happened to ours.

Tony and I were organizing our basement for the first time since we have moved in (2.5 years ago), and Margo was running around in the backyard.  She came in and was licking her paw and we noticed a good amount of blood on her leg.  Tony held her up and I made the executive decision that it was definitely deep enough for stitches.  Lovely.

She ended up getting a few staples at the vet, but only after they had to put her out since she was too hyper (shocker).

The vet informed us that as soon as she came out of sedation, she started chewing on the bandage, so we would need to keep a cone on her.

She is less than thrilled...

I feel horrible that she has to wear the cone, she pouted and sulked around for a good 24 hours.  Now that she's getting used it, I'm starting to not feel as bad and find humor in it when she runs into every doorway in our house.
I came home over lunch today and she had gotten herself stuck in the bathroom.  I'm sure the cone pushed the door shut when she was trying to get back out.

I think the lesson learned is no more cleaning the basement for us.

Ran across this picture today on Pinterest and it made me laugh...

And it also reminded me of my own life....

She's Special

Happy Hump Day!

I promise I'll blog about something other than my dog soon.

Good Point

Here's an intelligent email conversation that took place this morning.  I love my friends.

I was saying how we had to take Margo to the vet this morning because she keeps puking and we don't know what's wrong with her.

Gina - 'I wonder when dogs vomit if it's a terrible as when people do'

Emily- 'I bet it isn't as bad for them.  Their bodies are smaller and their heads are already pointed down.'

I had to share that laugh on this hump day!  Happy Wednesday!

I saw this picture on Pinterest and can't stop laughing.  It is seriously my dog to a T.

Are you on Pinterest?  I'm hooked.

Butch or Lipstick?

Yesterday marks the second time in 2 months that Tony or I have found a random lost dog in our yard.  Actually in my case, in the garage.
As I was walking out of the garage door to go back to work, I noticed a black and white furry thing in the corner sniffing around.  I tried to get it to come to me, and it started barking at me.  So I walked out front and looked around for anyone who it might belong to.  Nada.  Of coarse it wasn't wearing a collar.  I had to get back to work and couldn't just leave it out roaming the streets to get hit by a car, so I lured it into my house with a treat.  Crazy lady neighborhood dog napper here.
I left a big sign on the garage that said 'Lost Dog?  In backyard.'  Told the neighbors if anyone came to their door looking for a dog that it was in our backyard.  I gave him food, water and a few of Margo's toys.
When I got back to work, I called about 5 vet offices asking if anyone had reported him.  No luck, but they all told me to call Animal Control and they would come pick him up and take him to a shelter.  I was not about to do that.  I probably would have cried.  So I was stressing all afternoon about what I was going to do with this poor lost puppy.  I get home and run to the backyard.... no dog.  I went back to the garage door to see if someone had written anything on the sign or stuck something to the front door.  Maybe saying something like THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SAVING MY DOG!!  or even a simple PICKED UP MY DOG.
Nothing.
Which also marks the second time we have tried to save a dog from being hit by a car, and the owners haven't said ANYTHING or even left a note.  I would be buying people presents if they took Margo in.  Not that I'm expecting presents from anyone, just maybe a quick note on the back of receipt they had in their car that says 'took my dog', so I'm not running around my backyard panicking that a squirrel ate it.  Whatevs.

On a funnier note... Margo has been into girl dogs a lot lately.  Like really into them.  Gina's sister's dog Lily is like Margo's dream weaver.  Every time she is around, Margo humps her.
Yesterday, I picked Marg up from daycare and the guy who brought her out said 'she has a crush on a girl Boxer...'  I kind of looked at him funny and then said 'Ya, I think she's a lesbian.'
Poor gender confused Margo.  Maybe she is just bi-curious?  If she is a lez, what category do you think she falls into?
Butch Lesbian
or
Lipstick Lesbian

My vote is for Butch.

Water Logged

Ever since Tony forced Margo into the lake with him, she's been addicted to water.
Last week when I picked her up from daycare, the guy was like 'she is really wet.'  I was thinking, oh no big deal, she probably had just jumped in the pool and right back out.  She's not a huge fan of water.  Then I saw her.  Wet, dripping, smelly, Marg.  Running full blast at me.  It made it better that I was in my work clothes.  And it was over my lunch break... and I didn't have a towel.  He went on to tell me that she's the only dog that gets in the pool and never gets out while they are outside.  I was surprised to hear that, but don't blame her, it's effing hot outside.

So last night, Tony was watering the yard and Marg needed to take a potty break.  Tony didn't think we should let her in the back b/c the sprinkler was on and she'd get wet and messy.  I told him she would be too scared to play with it.

I was wrong...

Gumby

Remember that cute little weird rubber man named Gumby?  We now have one.

Tony ordered meds for Margo from PetMeds.com.  When they came, I opened the box to find a Gumby toy in there, too.  Tony had seen it online and thought it would be fun for our princess.  Ok, he really just needed to add something else to score free shipping, but whatev.

I turned into the worst dog mom ever this year.  I forgot about our daughter's birthday.  Last year we had a huge party with all of our  her friends, and this year I didn't even give her a bone.  Gasp, I know.  Her birthday was Thursday, and we remembered on Friday.  So Saturday I took her to Petsmart and let her pick out a toy.  She wanted all of them that she could reach, plus the little 3 year old at the checkout, but I told her she couldn't have him.  We left with a stuffed alligator, that I'm sure won't make it through the week, and 3 big bones.

So when Gumby came in the PetMeds box, we just acted as if we had ordered it for her birthday.  She'll never know.

A bit apprehensive at first

But she'll eat anything, so I wasn't worried.

Mr. Gumby makes me think of that one time at a KSU football game when everyone was calling me 'Blue Gumby'...

I have no idea where they came up with that...

So Happy Late Birthday Margo.  I'm a terrible mom.  Maybe you'll get to go to daycare twice this week?

Stoner

Marg has a problem.  Well, we've all known this for awhile, but this is a foot problem.  Monday night I thought I saw her limping, but figured she was probably just sore from going to daycare that day.  The next morning she was hobbling along pretty good and I was sure something was wrong.  I was running late as usual so I just planned on re-evaluating it over my lunch break.  Yep, still limping.

I ran to the store after work and Tony took her to the vet.  He called to tell me that they were going to do x-rays and give her a pain med shot.  Oh and that it would be $300.

About 30 minutes later I get a call from Tony,  'I have a dog...and a seat full of poop. Can you bring out rubber gloves, a bag, and some cleaner?!'

After I confirmed that the poop was Margo's and not his, I started laughing hysterically.

Turns out the shot had made her extra loose and woosy.  She got inside and just stood in the middle of the living room staring at me for about 4 solid minutes.  She wouldn't move.  Not even for a treat.  Then she started swaying back and forth like she was passing out.  It was the funniest and saddest thing I've ever seen.  I had to hold her up until Tony could come carry her to the couch (she's too fat for me to lift...good thing we didn't get that great dane I wanted).  Needless to say she slept for the rest of the night.

Tony sent me this text today after he talked to the vet  'X-ray was negative so she said it was probably soft tissue.  Said that her poop and stoner appearance was from the pain shot, they will note that they gave her a little too high of a dose.'

Glad they've got the doses under control at Petsmart.  She's probably wishing we would give her one of those shots daily.

Bedtime

Lately we haven't been able to budge Margo to get her to come to bed after she falls asleep on the couch.  So here's our solution...

Tony has to scoop her up, while trying not to break his back, and carry her like a baby into the bedroom.  She grunts like we are really 'putting her out' the entire time. If only we could find a blanket big enough to swaddle her.  Who says we aren't ready to be parents?  At least I know Tony has enough muscles to carry around a 13 year old in the future...

Margarita Business

Anyone out there that loves Bethenny Frankel as much as me?  I had been dying to try her Skinny Girl margarita.  I spotted some at my favorite store in OP.  Notice how I didn't say favorite liquor store?  Just my favorite store in general - MDL at 95th and Antioch.  At the time I spotted it, I was already carrying 3-4 wine bottles and at the risk of dropping one and embarrasing myself (I'm learning), I decided I'd grab it on the next trip.

The next trip was before we headed to Hutch for Rich's birthday and Easter.  I bought two bottles and was so excited to try them out.  They come in glass bottles, like the shape of wine bottles, which makes me love them even more.  I opened 'er up and poured it over ice with some limes...first sip.  Not entirely what I expected, it tasted a little watered down.  Then I realized that I loved them more than regular margs (with the mix stuff) because it wasn't as sweet.  It's very light and refreshing.  In fact, I'm kind of craving one right now.

As I was watching Bethenny on Watch What Happens Live (my other favorite show besides Real Housewives of anywhere), Andy Cohen told her he heard she made $120 million selling Skinny Girl to Jim Beam.  WHAT???  $120 million.  That's like a Beyonce & Jay Z salary.  She has been doing it for a year and sold it for big bucks!  She wouldn't confirm the amount, but kept saying that it was a lot of money.

This whole story got my friends and I thinking.  We need to make a liquor, wine, spirit, etc.  Sure, we aren't as popular as a Real Housewife star, but surely my blog followers would jump on the bandwagon.  Wouldn't you?
I won't tell you Emily's brilliant idea for our line of wine, because who knows?  If I win the lotto tomorrow, I will be doing this.
However, I can share our backup plan b/c it involves my dog.
How about a margarita brand - one of those bucket-o-fun styles, that's called Fatty Marg's.  Andddd... wait for it....Margo will be our mascot.

Excuse me as I go fatten up my dog even more.... we've got a photo shoot to get ready for.

Bully or Bullied?

Margo's had a rough patch with school lately.  We started taking her to a different daycare every other Wednesday when Janet comes to clean since she wouldn't be able to if Margo was home.  Then on the weeks that Janet doesn't clean, we take Marg to the daycare by our house on Mondays.  Make sense?  The reason for this is because one place is half price on Mondays and one is half price on Wednesdays.  Saving moolah here people.  Cleaning lady = half price daycare.  We're making it work.  Lord knows what will happen when we have kids?  Half price preschool anyone??  Kidding.

So last week we took her to this new school on Wednesday.  Being the overprotective dog mom that I am, I checked online to see her playing.  Call me crazy, I know.  I've heard it.  Well, it's a good thing I did check on her b/c she was in a separate room with only 2 other dogs while all the other dogs were in the play room.  So I debated and debated... and then I called.  I was really nervous and I don't know why.  I mean, we are paying for her to be there and play not to sit in a corner.  Granted we are paying half price, but we are paying.  I was told that she 'got into it with a boxer earlier so she was in the time out room'  Ummm, okay.  I figured they would let her back into the room later on, but every time I checked on her she was still in that damn room.  I wasn't the only one who was mad... you should talk to Tony.  Maybe I should have let him guest write this post.  So when I picked her up I asked them about it and they said 'she was a little cranky this morning'.  I, of course, got defensive and explained how she's never had a problem when another dog before and I just thought it was strange.  Then they told me it was Rufus (the other dog) being a pain and sometimes he is like that.  So you put MY dog in time out???  I'm still mad about it.  We may not be going back to this place...

This Monday we took her to our normal school which I love.  She plays and plays and plays and comes home exhausted.  Everyone loves loves Marg there.  I've had a couple of people ask to take her home.  She's a doll, I tell ya.  So I picked her up, got her in the car, and noticed something.  A huge scrape that was really wide and deep.  Now, she has came home with plenty of battle wounds before, but this one I could see the fatty skin underneath and could tell it had been bleeding.  I kind of freaked out because it looked like if it were on me, it would hurt.
I made the executive decision to take her to the vet in case she needed a stitch or two.  The vet took one look at her and said 'that's a puncture wound.  She got bit!  Yep she has a hole in her head'  Right as she said that I saw the other hole and could tell it was a bite mark.  Ouch!!  My poor baby.  I'm sure she was holding another dog down....but my poor baby!  They don't do stitches, so they just cleaned it up and gave me some antibiotics and anti-inflammatory pills.  I was relieved when she told me it was a good thing I brought her in because it would have gotten infected.  So $70 of meds later, we are out the door.

So now, is it better to be in time out all day at school?  Or get your ass kicked by another kid?  Looks like we have some behavioral issues to work on at home...

Tushy Tuesday

To tide you all over before I get to the post on Gina's shower, I thought I would leave you with this...

Here was Tony's view before he went to bed last night.

That's the cutest dog butt I've ever seen.
