and I'll not blog if I want to.
Happy Birthday to me! I'm not blogging today, but I will say I got a pretty kick ass camera from my hubby! Supa excited! Now I just gotta figure out how to get the pictures onto my computer...
But if you'd like to see a hilarious blog about me, please go to Gina's post. Bahahaha! We were so hot in high school...and I have no clue what was going on with my bangs in kindergarten.
And I'm still waiting on pics from Vegas, Gina and Biggs!
Life is what we make it... always has been... always will be.

Sneak Peek of Vegas & a Failure Bake Job
I'm still waiting on my friends to send me their pictures from Vegas so I can do an awesome post... until then, here's a sneak peak.
Here's the bachelorette in all her glory, walking down the Las Vegas strip, shoeless, and carrying a pillow case of beer she named 'Carlos'.
And here's how mine turned out...
Almost the same right? I baked them and flipped them upside down onto a plate like I thought she told me to. Apparently, I didn't do it right. I believe the gooey pineapple topping is supposed to be facing upward. Never-the-less, they tasted wonderful! Even though I had to eat them off the platter. With a spoon.
I guess this solidifies why I don't bake often. I think I'll stick with the main courses.

It gets better folks.
On another note... yesterday I was craving something sweet all freaking day long. Last night I decided to make Pioneer Woman's Pineapple Upside Down Biscuits.
Here's how hers looked:

Nader Alley
Seriously, what is up with these storms?! C-razyness. We were in Vegas when we heard about the terrible news from Joplin. That breaks my heart and I pray that everyone will recover to the best they can.
Our flight was delayed coming back from Vegas on Monday night and before we left the pilot basically said 'brace yourselves, it's going to be a bumpy ride.' At least that's how I transcribed it. Mid flight, he asked the attendants to 'take a seat and buckle up.' I was pretty out of it (and sitting inbetween 2 large men), but I remember thinking 'man, Tony would not do well on this flight'.
I was relieved that yesterday was normal since I was in bed until 12:15 pm. We don't have a bed in our basement and with the way I felt, I probably would have just rode out the storm underneath my warm covers.
Last night, the rain was insane. My patio cushions are still out there... we may not be able to sit on them until July. This morning I made it to work, the power went out, and then the sirens started. There was talk about going to the bathrooms to take cover. All 75 women in our building. As much fun as that sounded, I had a slightly impulsive moment, grabbed my keys and sprinted out of the door. I drove like a bat out of hell all the way home, freaking out the whole way home and saying things to myself like 'this is how people get killed.' and 'you see these stupid ass people on the news all the time and now you're one of them'. While driving 55 mph down 103rd street, I was talking to Tony and he was calming me down. Until I remembered that Margo wasn't at home. She was in school. Then all panic set in as I remembered that Janet was supposed to be cleaning the house today... was I going to have to hang out in my gross cold basement with Janet??? Glad I was more worried about hanging out with the cleaning lady than having my car picked up in a funnel. Alas, I made it home and I'm pretty sure my car was on 2 wheels as I pulled into the garage. I flew downstairs about 5 minutes before the crazy storm hit our area, but not before I grabbed a sleeve of saltines, a pop and a sweatshirt. I didn't know how long I would be down there.
Now the sun's out and it's hot, but we are in a torando watch until 6. Wth? Today has been one weird day.
Stay tuned for a post on Vegas. Obviously I'm still alive, so that's a plus.

Blog Break
I'm going to be on a blogging hiatus for a bit. Apologies. I'm sure there will be a future post to make up for it since we are heading to VEGAS this weekend for Gin Bean's bach party! We get back at midnight on Monday and you better believe I'm not coming into work on Tuesday. You will find me in my bed drinking gatorade until at least 3 pm.
In lieu of this event, I thought I'd share some pictures of thelast first time we visited Veg. I'd like to call us regulars. Emily and I met some really famous people...

Please excuse our outfits, this trip was our senior year of college. Remember when gauchos were in style? This particular event took place the day following us going out the night before. We voted for the wax museum over going to sleep. My mom was so proud when she received my 27 calls about 3 minutes apart from each other. Vegas makes you crazy I tell ya!
We are so much older and mature now, I'm sure there will be none of these shenanigans this time...
however I'm not making any promises. Mom, I'll just turn my phone off :)

Bedtime
Lately we haven't been able to budge Margo to get her to come to bed after she falls asleep on the couch. So here's our solution...
Tony has to scoop her up, while trying not to break his back, and carry her like a baby into the bedroom. She grunts like we are really 'putting her out' the entire time. If only we could find a blanket big enough to swaddle her. Who says we aren't ready to be parents? At least I know Tony has enough muscles to carry around a 13 year old in the future...

Pampering at it's classiest
I'm sure by now you can all tell I'm super classy. It's posts like these which solidify this statement...
Tony Santa bought me a mani/pedi for Christmas. Didn't you know that Rudolph is Chinese? It's now May, if your keeping track. I was waiting until the Kansas weather chilled out and decided to stay warm before using this gift. Uggs are bad news for a new pedi.
We are getting ready to head to Vegas for Gina's bach party (Hollaaa!) and I figured this was a perfect time to use it. So last night we all went and got our shalak on. Loved the shalak business by the way!
Try it sometime. I highly recommend!

Wal Man!
Have you met the cutest 7 month old stud muffin in the world? No? Well, here he is...
Wally Rocky Brockus, ladies and gentlemen. WINNING! (is that joke old yet?).
His mom, Erin, won't start a blog (I haven't been able to convince her quite yet, but it will happen) so I told her I would blog about her child for the web world to read. Gracious of me, I know. I can't believe this little man is so big! I feel like we had their reveal party yesterday. Wally, slow down buddy or you'll be babysitting our kids by the time we have them.
Anyways, back to this adorable love bug...
Sadly the Brockus family is moving farther away from us. Like 10 minutes as oppose to 3, but we'll still miss them. I think Erin is tired of me offering to babysit. She has this hunch that I'll switch the formula for Cabernet. Weird, I know. So on Friday we had one last happy hour on Windsor Street to celebrate the memories we've had over the past 3 (or 4?) years.
I had an unbelievably great idea to have a photo shoot. Too bad I didn't think of it before it got dark... and too bad my camera still sucks.
We will miss having you guys around the corner! Erin, start a blog STAT before Wally thinks I'm his mom.

Back post...by about a week
Hey Blogger! Glad to see you are up and running again...
Here's some pictures that I tried to share last week from Lindsay's birthday, but Blogger didn't want me to until now.
We even got our portrait taken by KC Nightlife... glad my bra made an appearance in this shot too. Keepin' it classy. At least we were in Missouri. Ha :)

Garden Veggie Linguine with Cilantro Pesto
I tried out a new recipe last night that I need to share. I adapted it from Better Homes and Gardens. I adapted it because I thought I had everything I needed...and then I didn't. But I did get to use my cilantro monstrosity that is growing on my deck. Don't let the cilantro freak you out... I don't normally love cilantro, but it made this dish!
It was so light and fresh and I will be making this again in the near future. The red pepper flakes give it an awesome kick! Here's the grediants:
8-10 oz. dry linguine or fettuccine (I used fettuccine)
Small zucchini- sliced
Small bunch of asparagus - chopped to about 1 inch pieces
1/4-1/2 lb. cooked shrimp (optional)
1/3 of a lemon
1/2 c. olive oil
1 cup fresh cilantro leaves
1 tsp. dry mustard
1 tsp. minced or dried garlic - I threw in a little more
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. crushed red pepper
Cook pasta according to the directions on the box, add the zucch and asparagus in the last 5 minutes. Add shrimp (if using) in the last minute. Drain, reserving 1/4 cup pasta water.
For pesto, cut the 1/3-1/2 of lemon into small pieces (I kept some of the peel on). In a processor, combine lemon, olive oil, cilantro, pasta water, salt, mustard, garlic, and red pepper. I added some pepper too.
Toss all together and top with more cilantro if you'd like! Serves about 4.
The original recipe called for carrots and an orange instead of asparagus and a lemon, but that's all I had on hand. It also didn't use shrimp, but I had some I needed to use.
It only took about 25 minutes to throw it all together. Enjoy!

Margarita Business
Anyone out there that loves Bethenny Frankel as much as me? I had been dying to try her Skinny Girl margarita. I spotted some at my favorite store in OP. Notice how I didn't say favorite liquor store? Just my favorite store in general - MDL at 95th and Antioch. At the time I spotted it, I was already carrying 3-4 wine bottles and at the risk of dropping one and embarrasing myself (I'm learning), I decided I'd grab it on the next trip.
The next trip was before we headed to Hutch for Rich's birthday and Easter. I bought two bottles and was so excited to try them out. They come in glass bottles, like the shape of wine bottles, which makes me love them even more. I opened 'er up and poured it over ice with some limes...first sip. Not entirely what I expected, it tasted a little watered down. Then I realized that I loved them more than regular margs (with the mix stuff) because it wasn't as sweet. It's very light and refreshing. In fact, I'm kind of craving one right now.
As I was watching Bethenny on Watch What Happens Live (my other favorite show besides Real Housewives of anywhere), Andy Cohen told her he heard she made $120 million selling Skinny Girl to Jim Beam. WHAT??? $120 million. That's like a Beyonce & Jay Z salary. She has been doing it for a year and sold it for big bucks! She wouldn't confirm the amount, but kept saying that it was a lot of money.
This whole story got my friends and I thinking. We need to make a liquor, wine, spirit, etc. Sure, we aren't as popular as a Real Housewife star, but surely my blog followers would jump on the bandwagon. Wouldn't you?
I won't tell you Emily's brilliant idea for our line of wine, because who knows? If I win the lotto tomorrow, I will be doing this.
However, I can share our backup plan b/c it involves my dog.
How about a margarita brand - one of those bucket-o-fun styles, that's called Fatty Marg's. Andddd... wait for it....Margo will be our mascot.
Excuse me as I go fatten up my dog even more.... we've got a photo shoot to get ready for.

Happy Monday!
There's no getting around it. Monday's suck. But just read this story and I guarantee your day will not be as bad as this chicks. Some people should not be allowed to reproduce...or apparently, drive.

Freshness
You know what I love about Spring and Summer?? Well, besides the sun and warmness, and patios, and margaritas. The Farmer's Market!
Here's what we were able to have this week.
Monday we grilled pork kabobs, sweet corn and asaparagus.
Tuesday we had a cucumber, tomato, and red onion salad with itailan dressing. And a bbq'd baked potato.
Wednesday we had BLT's with corn on the cob.
Thursday - well, Thursday we went out for Cinco De Mayo. I had tacos. And corona's. Which I don't think they sell at the FM. But they should.
Bring on the fresh veggie's ALL summer long!!
I'll also share how we have been cooking our corn on the cob because I am currently obsessed with it.
Brush olive oil over the corn, sprinkle with garlic salt and lemon pepper. Wrap individually in foil and cook on the grill for about 10-15 minutes, turning half way through. Butter before eating. YUMMM!
Have a fab weekend! I guess you all know where I'll be tomorrow morning at 8. Errr at 10.

Sullivan's HH
My aunt Tracy's birthday was on last Saturday. She's like the rest of my family, including me, that tends to celebrate a few times before and after our actual birthdays, so last Thursday we all met at Sullivan's for their happy hour.
If you are ever wanting to try a new place for happy hour on a Thursday, go here. It lasts all night. Do you need another reason? Probably not, but if you do I'll tell them to you.
All martini's and wine glasses are $5. All of the bar menu is $5.
The bar menu is small but has some good options:
Blue Cheese Chips
The Best Burger In Town (it looked good, but Tony would have to disagree that it was the best)
BBQ Beef Stack
Gnocchi - artichoke and parmesan
Crab & Artichoke dip
Tony (and almost everyone else at our table) had the burg
We also had some martini's. I went with the dirty again. I think I'm converted. Loving them!

The service was a bit slow for my liking, but I guess there were 10 of us...
Birthday girl is in the middle with the halo over her head. How fitting!
Fun night with a fun family and I would recommend checking it out on a Thursday for some cheap dinner and drinks!
P.S. Happy Cinco De Mayo!!! Bring on the margaritas!

Bully or Bullied?
Margo's had a rough patch with school lately. We started taking her to a different daycare every other Wednesday when Janet comes to clean since she wouldn't be able to if Margo was home. Then on the weeks that Janet doesn't clean, we take Marg to the daycare by our house on Mondays. Make sense? The reason for this is because one place is half price on Mondays and one is half price on Wednesdays. Saving moolah here people. Cleaning lady = half price daycare. We're making it work. Lord knows what will happen when we have kids? Half price preschool anyone?? Kidding.
So last week we took her to this new school on Wednesday. Being the overprotective dog mom that I am, I checked online to see her playing. Call me crazy, I know. I've heard it. Well, it's a good thing I did check on her b/c she was in a separate room with only 2 other dogs while all the other dogs were in the play room. So I debated and debated... and then I called. I was really nervous and I don't know why. I mean, we are paying for her to be there and play not to sit in a corner. Granted we are paying half price, but we are paying. I was told that she 'got into it with a boxer earlier so she was in the time out room' Ummm, okay. I figured they would let her back into the room later on, but every time I checked on her she was still in that damn room. I wasn't the only one who was mad... you should talk to Tony. Maybe I should have let him guest write this post. So when I picked her up I asked them about it and they said 'she was a little cranky this morning'. I, of course, got defensive and explained how she's never had a problem when another dog before and I just thought it was strange. Then they told me it was Rufus (the other dog) being a pain and sometimes he is like that. So you put MY dog in time out??? I'm still mad about it. We may not be going back to this place...
This Monday we took her to our normal school which I love. She plays and plays and plays and comes home exhausted. Everyone loves loves Marg there. I've had a couple of people ask to take her home. She's a doll, I tell ya. So I picked her up, got her in the car, and noticed something. A huge scrape that was really wide and deep. Now, she has came home with plenty of battle wounds before, but this one I could see the fatty skin underneath and could tell it had been bleeding. I kind of freaked out because it looked like if it were on me, it would hurt.
I made the executive decision to take her to the vet in case she needed a stitch or two. The vet took one look at her and said 'that's a puncture wound. She got bit! Yep she has a hole in her head' Right as she said that I saw the other hole and could tell it was a bite mark. Ouch!! My poor baby. I'm sure she was holding another dog down....but my poor baby! They don't do stitches, so they just cleaned it up and gave me some antibiotics and anti-inflammatory pills. I was relieved when she told me it was a good thing I brought her in because it would have gotten infected. So $70 of meds later, we are out the door.
So now, is it better to be in time out all day at school? Or get your ass kicked by another kid? Looks like we have some behavioral issues to work on at home...

Walllaa!
We finished the island last night, so here's the final outcome.
We took this sad guy that my mom and gmother found at an estate sale:
My mom and I painted him, my mom cut the tiles, and Tony adheased them to the larger top we had cut at Home Depot. (I'm like a regular there lately between the spray paint ordeal and this).
After the grouting it was all pretty and we ended up with this!
Now we just have to seal it in 3 days and it's officially done! Thanks to Tony and my mom for all their hard work. I would have done the tiling, but Tony is too OCD to let me handle something like that. He's probably right, mine would have ended up crooked for sure. I mean I did manage to sit on the only object in a 5 ft. area while bending over.
We took this sad guy that my mom and gmother found at an estate sale:
Worked and worked on him...
After adheasing the tiles, we had to wait 24 hours to grout it. It went better than expected, until I tried to help and accidently sat on the bucket-o-grout...

Spring Projects
I've had some requests for another Margo post, but she ate my Sperry's last week and we still aren't on speaking terms, so let's talk about how productive I was this weekend shall we?? Okay.
We had some projects to do around the house for the weekend and we were thrilled that the weather cooperated.
Project #1- Add a storm door to the front.
Yes, that is my Easter wreath that's still up.
Here's Tony in the process with his stop-taking-pictures-and-help-me face.
6 hrs. and one emergency patient later, here's what we had...
And off I went. Those gloves didn't last long, they were super annoying. After about a chair and a half I ran out of paint. Duh. Apparently I don't spray paint often, I guess I thought the can was never ending and one would get me through. I went back to Home Depot and came back with another can. It ran out too. I'm an idiot. So back I went again. 3rd time was a charm.
I might have sent Emily a text message saying 'spray painting is a bitch. I'm ready for a drink.' My right hand is still getting cramps and looks a little bit like a claw. But the end result was worth it.
And here are the cushions I bought for it. Yes, they are a little large, but I had issues finding smaller ones, so they will have to work.

Neither one of us were the emergency patients, thank God. Tony got called in to save someone's tooth. He's a good guy like that.
Project #2- Paint the old yucky patio furniture
My parents have had this patio set for as long as I can remember. When they moved from Great Bend it was passed on to us and I hadn't done anything with it since, but I wanted to keep it b/c I think it has a lot of character. Well, it needed some a lot of love after sitting outside for years without a fresh coat of paint.

So I grabbed me a can of spray paint...
So here's the layout of our deck, where I sat and enjoyed the fruits of my labors over a cocktail while Tony finished the door.
Then I got a hold of this guy...
He was in need of a makeover too and I didn't want him to feel left out. Nothing was safe with that paint can in my hand. Margo's lucky she didn't cross my path.
Project #3 - DIY kitchen island
We are almost done with this beaut. This is just a sneak peek. I'll post before and after pictures when we finish the grouting and sealing.
Okay, okay, here's a picture of Shoe Eater in all her glory.
